OBSERVING COLOUR

OBSERVING COLOUR

Exhibition now open

The exhibition Observing Colour presents the outcome of a year-long collaboration between photographer Richard Gaston, colourist Lauren Day and myself, exploring the translation of colour information from photography to textile.

Working from a selection of Richard’s landscape prints, Lauren has created a series of colour palettes from single threads, expressing the sensitivity and mood of a particular section of each image.  Using the physical thread wraps as a starting point, I edited, extracted and translated the palettes to design three new woven blankets that encapsulate the essence of Richard’s work, reflect the nuance of the colour information from Lauren’s palettes, and resolve the complex technical constraints when designing for weave.

The exhibition is on until the 21st November
